The bottom
bracket can be upgraded with ceramic balls
or ceramic bearings.
Example of Dura Ace 7700 bottom bracket with
ceramic ball upgrade. This particular bottom
bracket was used in Tour de France 2001, and
has run with only oil lubrication for 400 km
in 3 mountain stages.

The above
bottom bracket after 2000 km use in Tour de
France. The bearings have been exposed to
severe dust and high pressure cleaning. The
ceramic balls maintain perfect surface
condition, and low friction performance of
the bottom bracket.
