Bottom Brackets, Hubs
and Pulley Wheels of most brands can be fitted
with ceramic balls or ball bearings, below are shown
a few examples.
Pulley
Wheels
Dura Ace
Pulleys. (Here fitted with the original
steel bearing).
Some pulleys
are fitted with a ceramic bushing instead of
ball bearing. Like this Shimano Ultegra. The
bushing generates higher friction than a
steel ball bearing, and 30-60 times higher
friction compared to a ceramic ball bearing.
Pulley
Wheels
with the original bearings. When set in
motion the pulley stops after half a
revolution.
Pulley Wheels
now modified with ceramic bearing and non
contacting seal. The friction is low enough
that the pulley will spin by it's own
gyroforce for more than 30 seconds after
being fingered in motion.
This particular pulley wheel has been
used for more than 2 seasons, in total
+20.000 km. The bearing is still perfect
and the wear on the composite pulley is
minimal due to the fact that our hybrid
bearings, generates minimum friction
torque. This means that the pulley wheel
will accelerate faster from 0-500 RPM
and the wear on the composite material
will be less than normal. Actually our
calculations and measurements show that
the energy consumption on pulley wheels
with our bearings is reduced between 15
and 25 times (depending on the standard
set-up)
